The Weirdest Festival in the World: Baby Jumping in Spain

Perhaps you are wondering what is Baby Jumping Festival?

Every year during the month of June, the Spanish village of Castrillo de Murcia near Burgos holds its traditional Baby-Jumping Festival as part of its Corpus Christi celebrations. During the act, known as El Colacho, men dressed as the Devil (known as the Colacho) leaps over babies born during the previous twelve months of the year who lie on mattresses in the street.

This festival has been rated as one of the most dangerous festivals in the world.

The origins of this tradition is known to say that it will cleanse the babies of original sin.

They claim that this is a Christian tradition but Pope Benedict once asked Spanish priests to separate from El Colacho, and to announce that the tradition’s connection with Catholicism is none.
